Our mantle is 3+1/2" thick and has a rounded front that extends 3/4" from top edge. Most stocking holders are unsafe with this curved front. I found some that curve back underneath, but they only extend back about 1", which is only 1/4" back from the actual top edge (not safe).These simple, inexpensive, hooks do the job.Based on the pics, I was expecting them to be pretty ugly. While they are not beautiful, they're not ugly either. They exceeded my expectations. With other things on the mantle, these are pretty unobtrusive. The clear plastic hook is triangular in shape and acts a bit like a prism. They look almost silver in light.The plastic is fairly strong. I attached an 8 lb weight, and the hook held well. I wasn't super confident with that weight, but 5 lbs should be no problem.I can't speak to longevity. Plastic fatigue might be a problem. However, giving these 5 stars.
